The Skill of Reinventing Yourself
July 12, 2026
The email lands on a Tuesday. Your role has been eliminated.
So you do what everyone does. You polish the resume. You send it out fifty times. Then a hundred.
Nothing comes back. Is anyone even reading these?
No. Nobody is. Recruiters use AI to find candidates in 2026. If AI can’t find you, you don’t exist.
So here’s the clarity you need. In the world of AI, it is much easier to reinvent yourself from the bottom up than to desperately prop up a lost career. This is the skill of reinventing yourself.
An enabler for life
AI is an enabler. I’d go further. It’s an enabler for life.
It takes your ideas and turns them into something tangible overnight. You can try many things at extremely low cost and low risk. You keep trying until something you’re passionate about sticks. The essential takeaway here is that you must solve for speed and passion.
So ask yourself one question: Do you want to put your energy into learning something new, like AI? Or into sending countless resumes that nobody reads, only to chase a career that might disappear?
If I lost my job today, here is exactly what I would do. I’d be past it in a few weeks.
Two roads back
Road one: become a corporate dropout.
Spend the first three days writing down every pain point your previous employer has. Circle the ones the whole industry shares. Sketch a few ideas to remove those pains through tech or a service. Then go to town with Claude or Gemini and build the product in seven days, no more. Call your old supervisor and the people living with those problems. Ask to demo the solution. Take the feedback and commit to a second demo in 7 days. Close the deal.
Now the critical part. Rinse and repeat with other firms. You’re already the subject matter expert. You worked in that industry for years. Use former coworkers as references for new business.
👉 And by all means, do yourself a favor and read the books by Alex Hormozi, Chris Do, and Jeffrey Miner. Find those dudes on YouTube, learn how they talk, and look at the world.
Road two: get hired again, but sideways.
Find the top newsletter producer in your industry. Have Claude or Gemini create a spec of that newsletter, a harness. Get AI to collect every topic from the past six months. Then use Claude Cowork to produce 52 editions for you. Post twice daily, twelve hours apart, on LinkedIn and your own site at yourname.me or yourname.ai. You could even create your own avatar on HeyGen and have Cowork produce 50-second video clips of “you” for each post.
Here’s the critical part. Invite yourself, for free, into the organizations you want to work for. Offer a free 45-minute lunch-and-learn on their immediate pain points. Reach the HR and leadership suites through LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
Why 52 editions? Posting twice daily means 26 days. That’s how long it takes to go from unknown to perceived industry authority. Yeah, it happens that fast in the age of AI. But persistence is key. Never miss a single day. You’re proving to AI that you are the top expert.
Employment offers come your way when AI can find you. Forget sending resumes. Those days are over.
The Burnout Connection
Do not reward yourself for past work. Some people take a week off after losing a job. Wrong move, my friend. You are in the zone right now. Stay in that zone of industry expertise and produce your next move fast.
Too much time between your last job and your next one leads to burnout. Uncertainty clouds your outlook a little more each day. And new ideas after a long pause are hard to come by.
Worse, most of those ideas don’t reflect real pain points companies face every day. You risk solving something fictional in your mind rather than a problem someone would pay you to solve.
Start before Friday
Pick your road today. Not next month. Today.
If you choose the dropout road, open a blank page and write your old employer’s pain points. All of them. If you choose the hired road, find that top newsletter tonight and hand it to Claude.
Then show up every single day. The zone you’re in right now is worth more than any severance. Use it.
Reinvention isn’t the risk. Waiting is.
PS:
One more thing: Forget about weekends! When you are in the midst of reinventing yourself, that is not a job where you get the weekend off. Working your a** off on weekends will give you 8 more days a month! That is your competitive advantage that others do not utilize. Working crazy hours on something you are passionate about will not burn you out; instead, it will give you more energy.
